The Academy for Peace and Development has hosted volunteers and guests throughout the years (see below). In an effort to formalize and consolidate this aspect of APD's work, we have defined three distinct categories for future engagement. These are:
- Interns are unpaid volunteers from Somaliland or abroad, supporting our work for a limited period of time. Internships provide students and young professionals with opportunities to learn and gain practical experience while broadly contributing to the Academy's activities at the same time.
» Detailed Information and Application Procedure - Fellows are PhD or Master students who conduct their own research at the Academy, preferably in the framework of existing institutional relationships. Research issues may be from the context of their studies or jointly defined within the APD's research portfolio. The Academy serves as a conduit on a cost recovery basis. In return, fellows are requested to assist the Academy in practical ways. As a rule of thumb, mutual assistance should be in a balance.
- Visiting Scholars are established scholars sheltered by the Academy to conduct their own research projects or field trips in Somaliland. Scholars usually stay for shorter periods and rely on a broad range of hired services from the Academy.
