The Academy for Peace and Development (APD) has recently renewed its library. An electronic catalogue has been set up which currently holds around 700 references to books, reports, articles, unpublished papers ("grey literature"), etc. This includes above 200 books.
The referenced materials are divided into sections on Gender, Economy, Refugees, Social Affairs, Culture and Literature, Official documents and Peace. A collection of journals and magazines is also included.
While the library primarily provides background information on Somaliland, it also includes literature on the neighbouring countries and topical items relating to the Academy's fields of study.
The library is open 5 hours per day, six days a week: From 8:30am to 1:30pm, Saturday to Thursday. Occasionally, the library may remain closed when the room is needed for meetings. The facility is open to the public, and anybody interested can come and read within the library free of charge. For the time being, in order to secure the library assets, it will not be possible to borrow materials.
We invite Somalilanders, international scholars, visitors, aid agencies, etc. to donate further relevant materials that they wish to make available to the public. The Academy seeks to maintain and expand the library as a rich base of current and historical knowledge. Book donations from abroad can be received via our principal partner Interpeace.
