The Academy for Peace and Development yesterday started to conduct a two-day good governance training in Oodweyne for more than thirty participants from the district including city councillors, chiefs, and members of youth, and women organizations.

The Deputy City councillor of Oodweyne, Mr. Mukhtar Haji Abdillahi, in the opening ceremony thanked the Academy for Peace and Development for preparing the program. The Deputy City councillor added that the training will help improve the capacity of the local councillors and at the same time he told the participants of the training to use their efforts in acquiring knowledge from the training.

Jacfar Mohamed Gaadaweyne, the team leader of APD Burco outpost, who facilitated the training, explained extensively why good governance is better than bad governance and that community development comes from good governance. Mr. Jacfar advised the city councillors in particular that they should constantly work together and resolve whatever conflicts may arise among them and that they identify the needs of the community and prepare projects to submit to the donor organizations.

Omer Adan, a member of the staff in the Academy, also pointed out that the participants are required to gain knowledge from this workshop and apply what they learn from it in their daily activities and also transfer it to those who did not get the chance to participate in the workshop.
