Saeed Ahmed Mohamoud,
Project Management Team at the National Electoral Commission

"President of Somaliland, Dahir Rayale Kahin,
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi,
Parliamentarians,
Ministers,
Distinguished guests,

Today you inaugurate the new offices for the House of Representatives. The building shall be seen as one more important brickstone in the creation of good working conditions for the elected parliamentarians representing the will of the voter population.
The building was constructed by Warsame Saeed Construction Company and funded with donations from the European Commission, United Kingdom, Demark, Norway, Switzerland, and USAID. The implementation and monitoring of the project was jointly done by Interpeace and the Secretariat of the House of Representatives.
On behalf of Interpeace, I hereby express our gratitude to all the workers behind the construction and wish our best for the continuous democratisation process in Somaliland.

Congratulations and thank you."

H.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Mohammed,
Speaker of the House of Representatives

The speaker thanked the donors who funded the construction of the new office building and Interpeace, the organisation which implemented the project. He further explained that the EU will provide a range different trainings to the Members of the House. Abdirahman Abdillahi Mohammed stated that for the house to fulfil its duties, three items are needed:

  1. A place to work, which we have in the form of this building;
  2. Means to work, like computers and furniture, which we have, too;
  3. And people (staff) to do the work which we also have by employing young men and women who are now present.

Thus: "Now we have got all the three."

H.E. Dahir Riyale Kahin,
President of the Republic of Somaliland

"It really is a pleasure for me to participate in the opening ceremony of the new building for the House of Representatives. I recall that funds of the European Commission [and other donors] remaining from the parliamentary elections have been used for this building. Given the limited funds involved, it is apparent that the funds were used appropriately and optimally. It is my hope that we equally economize similar funds that we will get in the future. Now that it's one year since you were elected and gained experience, I expect that you continue to further discharge your duties. The institutions of the state should unite and become such that serve the country. We should come together to resolve any misunderstanding that may exist between us."
