27.05.2007:
Forum on the Criteria for the Somaliland Citizenship

The Academy for Peace and Development (APD) is pleased to invite you to the Forum for Civic Dialogue, a regularly held public gathering at which pertinent political, social and developmental issues are openly discussed and ideas for solving them are freely exchanged.

The Somaliland citizenship law has been enacted in 2002. The Act of Registration has been recently passed. The Registration is required to be carried out through out Somaliland, which requires citizenship identification. The key questions for this forum are:

  • What are the parameters for the criteria of Somaliland Citizenship in general?
  • What is the nature and scope of the current Somaliland Citizenship Law?
  • How is it unique? What are the gaps? Is there a need for amendment?

The discussion will be introduced by Mohamed Matan Jama
Advocate and lecturer at Hargeisa University.

The Forum will take place on

27th May at 7:30 PM at the Maansoor Hotel.

Ground rules for the Forum:

  1. Focus on the topic for the night and focus on the issues- no personal attacks please. Feel free to present any viewpoint relevant to the topic under discussion.
  2. We expect tolerance, civility, and respect from all sides to all sides- the aim is to promote the best for Somaliland, not to score a point against someone or a group.
  3. Allow and encourage participation from audience-we value participation dialogue.
  4. Respect the time allocated to you-do not feel offended if you are kept to the time allocated to you.
  5. The Chair reserves the right to direct questions and answers to ensure productive dialogue.

Your participation would be greatly appreciated and welcome. For more information regarding the event, please contact: Mohamoud Omar at 4414574 (mobile) or the Academy's Office at 520304 (Telesom).
