Arbitration Committee addresses deadlock
During the first week of August, an arbitration committee
composed of prominent poets, clerics and intellectuals was
set up to mediate the longstanding deadlock between Somaliland's
executive and the Lower House of Parliament. The agreement

New Peace Mapping Project
As part of Phase II of the Dialogue for Peace Programme, APD
and its partner organizations started a Peace Mapping Project
to improve understanding of the peace initiatives and reconciliation

Opening Ceremony for the New Academy

ceremony of its new premises on June 26, 2006, coinciding
with Somaliland's Day of Independence. Among the speakers

General Assembly 2006
From June 27-28, the Academy conducted its General Assembly.
Issues discussed included the future mechanism by which new
members would be admitted to the Assembly. The Board of Directors
was re-elected for another two-year term. The next General
Assembly is due in June 2007.

Strategic Planning completed successfully
On June 14, 2006, APD successfully completed its strategic
planning workshop at Ambassador Hotel. The meeting produced
a three-year plan of action both for organisational development
as well as programme objectives.
